Shakespeare – A bright, Bold and entertaining production from The Settlement Players.
This production follows the Wars of the Roses and Margaret of Anjou’s life in England, her arrival as a French bride, her involvement in the scheming in Henry VI’s court to her running the country, then becoming a mother and leader of the Lancastrian army.
First performed at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, in September 2018, Queen Margaret is written by Jeannie O’Hare, using Shakespeare’s original lines alongside new text, retelling the Wars of the Roses through Margaret of Anjou’s eyes.

Shakespeare wrote more words for Margaret of Anjou than any other woman across all his plays. Margaret appears in Henry VI Parts 1, 2 and 3 and Richard III. This production takes her out of the four plays and follows the arc of her life in England, her arrival as a French bride, her involvement in the scheming in Henry VI’s court to her running the country, then becoming a mother and leader of the Lancastrian army.

Jeannie O’Hare has performed some cast rebalancing leading to more female roles with epic monologues, brandishing of swords and opportunities to perform iconic roles.
This play is full of intrigue; murder; battles; blood; and a surprising amount of Humour, and the cast have worked hard to make this show accessible and entertaining for all. Shakespeare is meant to be performed and enjoyed, and the audience should feel free to get involved and react, so please come and see this show. There is no history test at the end.
