In December 1975 Monty Python’s final series was broadcast coast to coast in the USA – the first time on a network station but someone had cut out all the naughty bits.
The play, inspired by true events follows Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam on a reluctant trip to New York to persuade the network to reinstate the cuts. This ends up in federal court in a landmark case to discuss freedom of expression and artistic integrity. The play investigates the nature of comedy, the operation of censorship and the complex misunderstandings between UK and US relationships.
